About Lisa Lauer, MA, LMHC, NCC

For 17 years, I have assisted my clients in creating more fulfilling lives and satisfying relationships. People can get trapped in patterns that negatively impact them. Their thoughts, feelings and behaviors improve as they learn more effective strategies for achieving their goals. In counseling, I help individuals and couples discover positive options for coping with the obstacles they face.

We all learn communication styles that may stand in the way of resolving relationship problems. If you are experiencing marital difficulties, it is beneficial to examine your role in relationship conflicts and develop skills which produce more successful ways of getting your needs met. If remaining married is not an option, I can support you in the healing process throughout and after divorce. Life transitions can be difficult, but they also can be an opportunity for a happier life and healthier, more enjoyable relationships.

I practice Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), a well-researched form of therapy that allows me to help individuals and couples with various challenges. My clinical experience has focused on: anxiety, depression, relationship issues, divorce adjustment, stress management, parenting strategies and grief/loss.

I am a Florida licensed mental health counselor (LMHC), Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and a certified school guidance counselor. Additionally, I am a certified advocate in domestic violence awareness, prevention and treatment. My main office is located in Palm Beach Gardens and I also can accommodate clients at my West Palm Beach and Lake Worth locations. I offer a flexible appointment schedule, including evenings and weekends.

ABOUT ME:

You can develop a happy and healthy relationship to become the couple that your friends admire because you are so obviously connected. Fulfilling and healthy relationships should be the norm not the exception. Learn how to define what you need in a partner and become the best partner you can be to develop an amazing relationship. I assist you in identifying, developing and maintaining the relationship you want and need. I work with individuals and couples-pre-marriage, during marriage and with couples who have chosen to divorce to promote the healthiest relationships possible.

Learn to manage stress, responses to stress and trauma, and mood fluctuation to improve your quality of life. Therapy assists in minimizing the impact of stressors, improves mood, reduces depression and anxiety and provides direction to navigate stressful events to decrease negative outcomes. A few sessions can create significant changes.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions to promote good emotional health. I treat people with adjustment issues, anger issues, stress, grief and loss, trauma, depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. I will assist with symptom reduction and management and collaborate with your primary care physician or psychiatrist as needed regarding medication management(if medication is needed).

Amazing relationships can happen with the right guidance and direction. I have spent a significant amount of my career working with couples to improve and strengthen their relationships. I work with couples pre-marriage, during marriage and with couples and families who are going through a divorce. You can learn how to have and maintain great relationships.

I help couples and families who have chosen to divorce minimize the negative impact on the family during the adjustment and transition to the impending lifestyle change. Support, mediation and counseling are offered to the couple and family throughout the divorce and beyond as needed. It is important to prevent and reduce the emotional expense that a divorce can have on children and parents. Divorce is life altering to all involved, but it can be handled in a healthy manner that produces the least amount of trauma possible.

ABOUT ME:

I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana.  I received my undergraduate degree in Sociology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After finishing graduate school and practicing in Denver for several years, my family and I moved to Jupiter, Florida.

I received my Masters in Counseling from Regis University in Denver, Colorado.  I hold a Post Masters Certification in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MT 2666) in the state of Florida. I am a Certified Clinical Sexologist by the American Board of Sexology ( ABS Certification No. 2926). I am a Nationally Certified Counselor (#259574).

I have worked with many diverse populations and issues. As a married mother, I will bring my life experiences as well as my clinical training into our sessions together.

THERAPY SERVICES:

I offer therapy services for individuals and couples facing all types of challenges. Together, we will develop a treatment plan designed to meet your needs and goals.

I see clients for 50 and 90 minute sessions at my office. I also offer intensive therapy sessions, 3 hours at a time.  I offer Walk Therapy in 50 minute sessions to individuals only.

THERAPY STYLE:

My style is directive. I believe the types of therapy I practice work well when the client is seeking solutions to addressing life challenges in a practical, straight forward way.

Call or email me to set schedule your discounted first session to see if I'm the right therapist for you.

My educational background is Holistic and community-based therapy. This means I will  look at the entire system such as society, family, peers and self.  A system can influence a person's perceptions, modes of interacting and style of communicating.  The Holistic approach looks at the whole person including their overall mental and physical health, relationships and career.

I practice Solution focused therapy and Cognitive Behavioral therapy. Solution focused therapists believe that change is constant. This type of therapy focuses on what clients want to achieve through therapy rather than on the presenting problem. Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT) addresses issues concerning dysfunctional behaviors, patterns and emotions.  The client will learn techniques on how to identify distortive thinking and change their behaviors.
